Spring 2008 Newsletter

LATEST NEWS - July 17, 2008

This Saturday we will be providing breakfast after practice. Come swim with us from 8-9:30, we will have a good workout and some fun relays at the end; and then stick around for coffee, juice, fruit, bagels, etc. Suggested breakfast donation $5. Hope to see you there ;-)

6 MAAC swimmers recently competed at the PMS Long Course Championships, held in Santa Cruz. For those of you that have never swam long course, this is a 50m pool just like in the Olympics. Kathy, Teresa, Beth, Karen, Byron and Gunter all swam and set 24 individual team records and 1 team relay record between them. Wow, just like Dara Torres, these people keep getting faster as the years go by. Notable results include Beth's 29.75 in the 50m free (equal to a 25.91 short course). Beth aged up for this meet and this performance earned her 1st place in her age group and is equal to the 6th fastest time in her age group for all of US Master's Swimming for 2007. Stay tuned for 2008 results.

Other meet highlights : Gunter lowered his own team record in the 50 backstroke by 14 seconds!!!, Kathy took 2nd place in the 100m fly and bettered every team freestyle record from the 50m to the 800m. Karen nearly matched her feat, missing out only on the 100m record, while setting team records in the 50m, 200m, 400m, and 800m. Not to be outdone, Byron set 6 team records, and Teresa lowered her team record in the 200m breaststroke and was part of the women's record setting relay team. As a team, MAAC finished 5th place in the small teams division (and brought home our 2nd place plaque from the short course championships held in April).

Note to late swimmers - If you show up to practice late (after the warmup is completed), please check in with the coach, who will tell you where and when to get in. You may need to wait until a set is complete as it can be disruptive when swimmers enter a lane during a set. Thank you for your cooperation.

Policy for visiting swimmers - If you are a registered USMS swimmer AND affiliated with another club from outside the area, we would love to have you join us for practice while you are visiting Modesto. Please bring a copy of your current USMS card and a $5 drop-in fee, which you can give to the coach on deck.

    • Team Records

Team records have been compiled for all meets/competitions since the inception of MAAC, and are updated continuously as new records are set. Click to view: Long Course Meters , Short Course Meters , Short Course Yards , Open Water. As you can see, there are still lots of opportunities to set team records in most age groups, so set yourself a goal to set a MAAC record this year! TRACK YOUR PROGRESS on the monthly TIMED 500s.
